So... a bit of a long story... but to sum it up...

In high school, my friend and I invented our own language called Seledin that we spoke together at our cross country practice. As our vocabulary grew, we continued to speak this language for several years but have forgotten a decent bit. In an effort for us to revitalize this language and practice, I created this Quizlet-inspired flash card program.

This game is not intended for beginners but they might still find it interesting and enjoyable!

If you have a language of your own, either real or fictional, I hope playing Travels of the Fjéggernaut can inspire you to make language games! :)

FAQ

  • How do you pronounce "fjéggernaut"? // "FYUG-er-nawt" [ˈfʲə.gɚ.nɑt].
  • What is "spusta"? // Spusta means "level". In the game, Spusta 1 means Level 1.
  • What is the enemy in the game? // The enemy is called an obastkel, a demonic being with an eyeball for a head. It is part of a world my friend and I created.
  • Are you fluent in Seledin? // I would say my friend and I are conversational in both its written and spoken forms, but we've got a long way to go before we're fluent.
  • Will you make a version for beginners? // I have considered it! I wanted to start small with a simple flashcard game, but making a gamified language course for fictional languages is definitely something I want to make in the future.
